A great Disney World trip is won in the planning. Here's the month-by-month checklist we use for clients — and the good news: a Disney travel agent's help costs you nothing extra.
6+ months out: the big decisions
- Pick your travel dates around crowd calendars and school breaks
- Choose a resort tier (value, moderate or deluxe) that fits your budget and how much time you'll spend "home"
- Decide how many park days and whether you want Park Hopper
- Lock the resort and tickets — this is when the best availability exists
60 days out: dining and experiences
Walt Disney World opens dining reservations 60 days ahead, and the marquee restaurants (and character meals) go fast. Have a prioritized list ready the morning your window opens. This is also the time to plan any special experiences — celebrations, tours or spa time.
A few days out: Lightning Lane strategy
Lightning Lane (the paid line-skipping system that replaced FastPass) rewards a plan. Decide which rides are worth it for your family, know which are the highest-demand, and build a simple day-by-day so you're not deciding in the moment with tired kids.
The week before: logistics
- Confirm flights, airport transfers and resort check-in
- Set up the My Disney Experience app for everyone in your party
- Pack for the weather — ponchos, comfortable shoes, refillable water bottles
- Build in rest — mid-day breaks make long park days sustainable, especially with young kids
The families who have the best trips aren't the ones who do everything — they're the ones with a plan and room to breathe.
Why use a Disney travel agent
Disney's pricing is the same whether you book yourself or through an agent — so a full-service Disney agent is genuinely free to you. We handle resort and ticket selection, watch for promotions and re-price your trip if a better deal drops, snag hard-to-get dining, and build a custom day-by-day plan. You get an expertly planned vacation without the hours of research.
